The Star Witness success story continued at the Magic Millions 2YOs HIT Sale this week.
Widden Stud’s rising star in the stallion ranks topped the leader-board during the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions on the Gold Coast.
The Star Witness – Ellamotion (Exceed and Excel) colt offered by Aquis Farm will head to Singapore after selling to Constance Cheng for $315,000. “He’s a strong, well-built colt and a brilliant mover,” Cheng said. “I’m delighted to have purchased who I thought was the standout horse of the sale.”
His lightly-raced dam Ellamotion hails from the family of Group 1 winners My Brilliant Star, Shot of Thunder and Sudurka.
Topping that price-tag was the Star Witness – High Aspirations (Exceed and Excel) colt that sold for $450,000 during the second session. He was presented by Washpool Lodge and purchased by local trainer Bryan Guy.
“He’s a very strong colt,” Guy said. “He was one of those horses you couldn’t help but like. He’s a great type of horse who breezed terrific and looks a great prospect.”
Star Witness had a Saturday to remember last weekend when Global Glamour won the G1 Thousand Guineas while Star Turn and Mella Maria were both successful in Group 2 company.
The Gold Coast 2YO HIT Sale grossed over $10 million at an average of $48,910 on a 73% clearance rate. “There were buyers at every level at this sale,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “This led to our leading consignors being well rewarded.”
Singapore buyers went home with 34 lots at a spend of $2.17 million while visitors from Macau (19 lots), South Korea (16), Hong Kong (12) and China (10) were also very active.”
