Peters Investments increased its lead on the 2024-25 WA Breeders table when Antique Miss claimed the LR Detonator Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Antique Miss (5m Domesday – Antique Belle by Redoute’s Choice) had won the G3 La Trice Classic (1800m) on New Year’s Day and she was up for the fight to make it back-to-back black-type victories in the cerise and white silks for trainer Michael Grantham and jockey Chris Parnham.
Bob and Sandra Peters have now notched 9 Stakes wins this season and Antique Miss is primed to add more black-type in the LR Bunbury Cup (2000m) on March 8 and LR Pinjarra Cup (2300m) on March 23.
“It was a good ride by Chris. I thought she might have to lead but he didn’t think so and he knew exactly what he was doing,” Bob Peters said after his homebred mare landed a three-way finish over Red Sun Sensation (Awesome Rock) and Own The Queen (Awesome Rock).
“She never leaves a feed and always wants to go to the races. And the distance doesn’t matter. She’s a game mare and just performs every time.”
It was the third Detonator Stakes win in recent years for Perth’s leading owner-breeders following True Attraction (More Than Ready) in 2022 and Star Exhibit (Statue Of Liberty) in 2019.
The winner’s dam Antique Belle died a fortnight after foaling a filly by Pierro in September. Her 4yo Pierro mare Antique Star won at Bunbury and Belmont earlier this season and her 2yo is an unraced Pierro filly named Boutique Belle with Ascot trainer Gary Crispin.
Antique Belle won a LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) and LR Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) while second-dam Antique (Metal Storm) was a full-sister to Kalatiara (G2 WA Guineas) and Kentiara (LR Detonator Stakes).
“It was a slowly-run race but I was able to make a move before the leaders kicked on the corner,” Parnham reported. “She ran through the line and should get further than 1800m.”
