Pearce Racing’s yearling parade on Sunday morning came a few hours too early for the stable’s Aysar – Indi Pacific colt that was bred and sold by Geisel Park for $50,000 at the Perth Magic Millions on Thursday.
His older half-sister Elegant Indi won the Peter Miguel Memorial Trophy (1400m) at Pinjarra just before 4pm on Sunday. If the yearling colt still had shares remaining after the morning inspections he was probably fully subscribed after the mare’s last-to-first victory for Durrant Racing and Greenfields Lodge.
Elegant Indi (4m Toronado – Indi Pacific by Blackfriars) settled at the tail of the field with the favourite Choux Shoe (Churchill) and she was still spotting the leader Azabelle (Lucky Street) a tidy start in the straight before motoring home down the outside to score by over a length under Willie Pike.
Pearce Racing already had a proper sales pitch before the pedigree update and that was confirmed when all shares in the son of Aysar were sold by Tuesday morning. “He’s a strong colt out of a black-type mare and represents good value at his entry level price,” Ben Pearce said.
There are 8 black-type winners under second-dam Prime Again (Marooned) who was a Group winner in Perth and Adelaide for Tilden Park founder Dallas Dempster. Among them are Mizzy (G1 ATC Canterbury Stakes), Pizzazz (G3 ATC P J Bell Stakes), Lady Knockout (LR VRC Matron Stakes) and Missy Cummings (LR ATC James Carr Stakes).
Locally, they include Young Lionel (LR Northam Cup), Like A Butterfly (LR Ascot 1000 Guineas) and Geisel Park homebred Laced Up Heels (LR Burgess Queen Stakes) who is also by Toronado.
“We bought three by Aysar at the Magic Millions and he has the looks and pedigree to make it as a sire at Geisel Park,” Pearce added. The other Aysars heading to the Pearce Racing stables in Karnup are the colts from Kensington Gem (Lot 19) and Bella Contessa (Lot 131).
The top-priced Aysar was the filly out of Rosebank (Lot 70) that made $110,000 to agent John Chalmers (as agent) for Lindsay Park. “We trained Aysar and he was an outstanding racehorse,” Lindsay Park posted on Monday. “He possessed natural speed and we travelled to the Perth Magic Millions looking to purchase one of his first yearlings and we secured a gorgeous filly from Geisel Park out of the Helmet mare Rosebank.
“She’s from a great running family with a good-sized frame. She moved very well from the first inspection but improved throughout the week just like a good athlete should. Her temperament was unflappable, taking the whole sales week in her stride and now she is travelling to Victoria to join us at Lindsay Park Racing.”
