Black-type beckons Geisel Park mare Rissoles

Playing God mare Rissoles is marking time for another chance in black-type company after racing away with the TBWA Platinum Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra on Magic Millions Day.

Rissoles scored by more than three lengths from Cherry Can Run (God Has Spoken) and it could have been wider if Chris Parnham had asked for another kick after the race was as good as over on Saturday.

She had won the Epona Classic (1200m) at Ascot in December and has now banked over $235,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $66,000.  Bred and sold by Rangeview Stud for $85,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions, she is raced by Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg in partnership with Kevin Johnston and Simon Lill.

Rissoles (4m Playing God – Snitz ‘N’ Giggles by Snitzel) had been beaten 10 lengths in the LR Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) second time out during the 2023 summer carnival and trainer Luke Fernie will set her for redemption in the LR Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) on March 15.

“She’s a nice horse but has been a bit unlucky and didn’t back-up off a seven-day break at her last start,” Fernie said.  “Dropping back to 1200m and going four weeks between runs made a big difference today.  She’s lightly-framed and we’re spacing her starts.  It’s another month into that fillies and mares event and it’s quite a nice race for her, too.”

Rissoles is from a winning half-sister to LR MVRC Carlyon Stakes (1000m) winner Acromantula (Written Tycoon).  Second-dam For Your Eyes Only (Bletchley Park) was also a Listed winner of a Gimcrack Stakes, Ascot 1000 Guineas and Beaufine Stakes at Belmont.

Rangeview has catalogued a Long Leaf yearling half-brother to Rissoles as Lot 300 at the Perth Magic Millions later this week.  Their dam Snitz ‘N’ Giggles foaled a Playing God colt in October.

Geisel Park’s Day 1 draft for the Magic Millions Yearling Sale includes fillies by Brazen Beau (Lot 115) and St Mark’s Basilica (Lot 153) plus colts by Nicconi (Lot 101) and Awesome Rock (Lot 190).  Its Day 2 Playing God – Flying Angel filly (Lot 219) is a half-sister to seven winners and descends from Sir Tristram (Ire) Group 1 filly Captiva.
