Twilight Tale can keep her unbeaten record intact while going through the grades after making a one-act affair of the MCA Polytrack Hcp (1600m) at Ascot.
The Peters Investments homebred charged home off a leisurely pace to score by more than two lengths from front-runner Barra Mundy (Toronado) and The Hill Tribe (War Chant). She had won a Pinjarra maiden over 1500m on debut on the Australia Day long-weekend and punters with long-term memories would have snapped up the $3 available last Wednesday.
It was a performance reminiscent of her dam Dreamaway who won a Pinjarra maiden before sweeping every Perth classic against the colts and fillies in the autumn of 2011.
“She can be a handful at home and on raceday,” trainer Michael Grantham admitted. “She was out to a mile today and will be getting over more ground. I will speak to the boss about where we go from here although the WA Oaks looks a likely target.”
The $300,000 WA Oaks (2400m) at Group 3 level is set down for April 5 at Ascot.
Bob and Sandra Peters bred her using NZ Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel) over Dreamaway who dominated her generation winning the G3 Champion Fillies (1600m), LR 1000 Guineas (1800m), LR Natasha Stakes (2200m), G3 WA Oaks (2400m) and G1 WA Derby (2400m).
Dreamaway has a 2yo filly by Churchill (Ire) named Dream Star and her final foal is a yearling colt by Maurice (Jpn).
“She’s a bit of a character and was in a mood today,” winning jockey Clint Johnston-Porter reported. “But she was a professional once we jumped although I didn’t think she would let down that good!”
The Ascot win came a day after Peters Investments purchased another three well-bred fillies through Byerley Bloodstock (as agent) at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney. The Zoustar – Moss Trip (Lot 454) topped the trio at $360,000 followed by the Maurice – Spring Heat (Lot 679) for $150,000 and Trapeze Artist – I Like it Easy (Lot 304) for $80,000.
