Forest View Farm wild about Harry

Fast Harry lived up to his name with one of the best midweek wins seen at Ascot this season in the Glenroy Chaff Maiden (1400m) on Wednesday.

The lightly-raced 3yo son of Harry Angel (Ire) was giving the leaders upwards of ten lengths into the straight but gave them windburn to score running away from Social Affair (A Lot) and Rocking In Vegas (Awesome Rock).

Fast Harry went out a $1.50 favourite but wasn’t given any favours from a wide gate.  Jockey Willie Pike was forced to go back in the field and was in another post code when Longtimebeliever (Long Leaf) kicked clear for Keshaw Dhurun.

“I was concerned there was too much to do but when he let down I was confident we could get there,” Pike said.  “He can be tricky to ride but has the potential to blossom into a very good horse for the owners.”

Fast Harry was bred and sold by Forest View Farm for $72,500 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions to a stable syndicate managed by Grant and Alana Williams.  He had been runner-up at Bunbury on debut back in November and put the writing on the wall when placed first-up at Pinjarra on Anzac Day.

“He still maturing and we were very happy with the run at Pinjarra,” Grant Williams explained.  “He’s a handful and was off-the bridle today but has ability.  That what we’ve been telling the owners and they’re more relaxed after that win.  We will take him along slowly and put him away after another start or two.”

Forest View Farm owners Ben and Jo Duncan had purchased his dam Helmaski (Helmet) for $50,000 off the track at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.  After throwing Belmont winner Grey Mistress (Sessions), they sent her to Harry Angel who was standing for a $16,500 fee in his second southern book at Darley Kelvinside.

That was an inspired choice.  Harry Angel (Dark Angel) is now a runaway leader of the 2024-25 Australian Third-Season Sires Premiership with $11.86 million in earnings.  And his service fee this year has been set at $66,000.
