Herault promised plenty earlier this season with a Bunbury breakthrough in the Wittens Irrigation Maiden (1675m) in November and he resumed in style winning the Procon Hcp (1300m) at Northam on Sunday.
The 3yo son of Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man started an odds-on favourite and won like one with four lengths to runner-up Belaura Star (Magnus). “He’s shaping up as an exciting work in progress,” trainer Jason Miller said. “He’s still learning what it’s all about but has been working well, trialling strongly and delivered when it mattered most.
“He carried 60kgs and settled worse than midfield before letting down impressively down the middle of the track. The Belmont 3YO features could now be on the radar.”
Herault (3g Gingerbread Man – Valtellina by Blackfriars) is raced in partnership by Miller and his wife Sarah with Namerik Thoroughbreds owner Alan Bansemer who bred and sold him for $50,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
He’s the first foal from a half-sister to Alsephina (Street Cry) who won a G3 La Trice Classic (1800m) at Ascot prior to a successful visit to Melbourne for the G2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
Yarradale-bred graduate Last Stylebender doubled up for the Gidgegannup nursery in the MC Polytrack (1000m) on Wednesday. He also started a short-priced favourite and led from go to whoa from Atlantic Spirit (Frosted).
Last Stylebender is one of 285 individual winners by Darley shuttler Harry Angel (Ire) and is the first foal from Saturia (War Chant) who was a Belmont winner for trainer Paul Jordan. He was catalogued for the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and Yarradale kept a share after he sold for $100,000 to Mitch Pateman.
