Geisel Park in focus for Winter Sale

Entries closed last Friday for the Perth Magic Millions Winter Sale and among the leading vendors is Geisel Park with a select draft of seven yearlings heading to the Swan Valley on Sunday, June 22.

Yearlings by Godolphin Group 1 shuttler Blue Point (Ire) and leading local stallions Playing God and Maschino will be focal points as will Geisel Park’s in-form resident Manhattan Rain.

Manhattan Rain’s first Westspeed-conceived crop averaged $87,500 on Day 1 of the Perth Magic Millions in February.  The full-brother to this year’s LR Miss Andretti Stakes (1200m) winner Man Crush topped his consignment with a winning bid of $220,000 from Maureen Daly.

Geisel Park manager Conor Dunlop is prepping a pair of first-crop Manhattan Rain yearlings for the Winter Sale and he’s rapt in the filly from American Choice (All American) who was an early-season 2yo winner for Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg.  “We bred her dam and she was placed in a Crystal Slipper before breaking through at Ascot,” Dunlop recalled.  “Her filly is similar and only needs half her heart to be winning city races.”

The Manhattan Rain – Pearl Trade (Trade Fair) gelding is also bred to move along as a member of the precocious ‘Karioi’ family.  “He’s a nice looker and the dam was very fast,” Dunlop said.  “She earned over $200,000 winning three sprints at Ascot and Belmont.”

Their value will continue to swell leading up to the Winter Sale next month and leading the way is Manhattan Rain’s last-start G1 SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Benagil.  She is a firming favourite to complete a classic double in the G1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) on June 7.

Manhattan Rain mare New York Lustre will be gunning for six wins straight in the G3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville this Saturday while Toronado (Ire) mare Laced Up Heels will sport Geisel Park’s silks in the G3 Northam Stakes (1300m) on Sunday.
