Geisel Park Stud has announced its intention to sell Myalup Farm, one of Western Australia’s most historic pastoral properties. Established in 1846 by Sir William Bunbury, the 100-hectare (248-acre) property near Bunbury represents one of the longest continuously farmed holdings in the State.
Stud Principal Eddie Rigg cited the continued growth of his business interests as the catalyst for the decision. “Argonaut has expanded into Sydney and we have set ourselves ambitious targets for our funds management business. Salubris is on track to become WA’s leading independent generator of Australian Carbon Credit Units and biodiversity offsets. As Chairman and Co-Founder of both businesses, the time has come to focus my energy.
As a result of the sale, stallions Aysar, Manhattan Rain and Winning Rupert will be relocated ahead of the upcoming breeding season. Standing locations and service fees for all three stallions will be announced shortly.
Concurrent with the property sale, Geisel Park will conduct a sale of thoroughbred breeding stock in WA (excluding his interests in Aysar and Manhattan Rain). Rigg confirmed he intends to continue racing horses and breeding some mares in the future on the East Coast and Western Australia. Full details of the sale of horses will be announced in due course.
Rigg paid tribute to long-serving stud manager Conor Dunlop, who has been with Geisel Park for nearly 14 years. “Conor’s dedication and knowledge have been integral to everything we have built at Myalup. He will play a central role in managing both the property sale and the sale of our breeding stock, and I’m grateful for his continued commitment through this transition.”
Shaun Yeo of Jones Ballard and Simon Bushell of LJ Hooker South West have been appointed as Joint Sales Agents for Myalup Farm. The formal sale process is expected to launch next week.
