Gingerbread Man colt tops Day 2 at Magic Millions

A Gingerbread Man colt topped Book 2 when selling for $190,000 as the 2026 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale rounded out with record breaking results on Friday.

Offered as part of a quality Yarradale Stud draft, the colt was purchased by Peter and Luke Fernie after a spirit bidding battle at the Swan Valley Sales Complex.  Strong trade helped the second-day catalogue return new record prices.

Compared to 2025, Book 2 turnover of $6.35 million was up 31% while the average rose 19% to $47,808.  The clearance also jumped 7 points to 85%.

Friday’s top selling Gingerbread Man colt is a full brother to black-type galloper Red Fifty Three who has earned over $400,000.  The $190,000 seller just edged out colts by Zousain (Lot 198) and Playing God (Lot 237) that made $180,000 to Yenrise P/L and Dan Morton respectively.

Yarradale Stud general manager Davy Hanratty and his wife Susan bred and reared the Gingerbread Man colt at the Gidgegannup Farm.   “We had a $60,000 reserve on him so it’s a massive result,” Hanratty told ANZ News.  “He’s a great physical and the price was no fluke.  Everyone that saw him loved him.”

The top priced filly of the day was the Lightsaber – Reliable Dame youngster who was presented by Mungrup P/L and purchased by Millfields Park and Vern Brockman for $170,000.

“It was an outstanding day and a record sale for Book 2,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.  “It was a very healthy average with a clearance rate that was exceptional.  To be able to sell 16 horses for $100,000 or more was an outstanding effort.

“The depth of the market right through the sale – in particular the local market – ensured it’s been a great two days.  Congratulations to the breeders here in the West.  They’ve been investing in better broodmares and stallions are reaping the rewards and that’s been reflected here in the depth of the market.

“Magic Millions is thrilled to be able to achieve that on behalf of the industry here in Western Australia.  And we look to continue to build on these results and to see the breeding industry remain vibrant and successful.”

Magic Millions reported overall trade on Thursday and Friday also recorded new highs for turnover ($21.45 million) and average ($76,878).  So did Playing God who topped the overall sires’ list with 46 Lots finding new homes for $5.85 million at an average of $127,283.
