Lynward Park lands double at Belmont

Niccimota survived a protest to complete a winning double for Lynward Park in the Mrs Mac’s Hcp (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.

The well-bred 4yo daughter of Nicconi (Bianconi) and 3kg claimer Chanel Cooper accounted for front-runner Prince Amongst Men (Winning Rupert) turning for home and then held off the late rally of Go Go Grommet (Maschino) and fellow 3kg claimer Zephen Johnston-Porter.

Niccimota shifted outwards slightly over the final stages brushing with Go Go Grommet but stewards ruled it was insufficient to reverse the placings.  That worked out well for favourite punters who took even-money after her last-start victory at Pinjarra on August 20.

“She held on to win by the barest of margins,” trainer Jim Taylor posted on Facebook.  “She had to survive a protest but ‘Sally’ was able to bring up her first Saturday win for a great group of owners.”

Jim would say that given his wife Tina and mother Lois are in the partnership that purchased Niccimota from Lynward Park for $120,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  She’s an older half-sister to Lynward Park 3yo homebred Riva Aquarama (Star Turn) who won a Northam maiden in July and a Belmont Class 1 in August.

Their dam Outboard Motors (Sebring) was a $60,000 buy for Lynward Park at the 2021 Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast.  She’s out of a half-sister to Group 1 racehorse and sire Dolphin Street (Bluebird) and her 2yo is a Bondi filly named Axopar.

Who’s Bent opened Saturday’s Belmont meeting on a winning note for Lynward Park in the MCA Polytrack Plate (1000m).  The Hellbent 3yo split front-runner Slip The Jab (Written Tycoon) and the favourite Paint It Red (Winning Rupert) in the straight to open his account for trainer Mitch Pateman.

Who’s Bent was bred by a partnership that included Lynward Park’s Ted van Heemst and Western Reliance principal Glen Summers.  He’s the final foal from Who’s Gorgeous (Northern Meteor) who was a Canterbury 2yo winner for Bart and James Cummings

Summers bought Who’s Bent outright for $9,500 at the 2024 Inglis May (Early) Online Sale and his breakthrough victory was worth $69,620 including a Westspeed Bonus of $22,000.

Lynward Park stands Bondi (Snitzel) for a $6,600 (inc GST) service fee.  For bookings or further information call Troy van Heemst on 0439 957 111.
