Playing God colt fronts Westbury Park Yearlings

Westbury Park owners Phil and Lindy Ibbotson have been busy on several fronts while prepping their draft for the Magic Millions Winter Sale this Sunday.

Lindy is in the Ladies Syndicate that races last-start Bunbury 2yo winner Sound Of Speed (Microphone) with Trevor and Joanne Andrews.  “He won by three lengths beating a quality field.” Trevor said.  “It’s great to get a win on the board and I’m sure there’s plenty more to come for all the ladies.”

It was Phil’s turn when 4yo mare The Mighty Bell (I’m All The Talk) won the TABtouch Maiden (1000m) for trainer Steph Bakranich at Pinjarra on Thursday.  She’s the first foal from Karma Bell (Lucky Unicorn) who was bred in NZ by Sir Patrick Hogan and her latest deliveries are a yearling filly and filly foal by Westbury Park sire My Admiration.

Westbury Park also led WA buyers at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale in Melbourne last Friday when pinhooking a beautifully-bred Written By chestnut filly from Social Smile (Sebring) for $52,500.

“I liked her right from the moment I first saw her at Oaklands,” Phil said.  “There’s black-type right down the page and Sebring mares are outstanding producers.  We will either sell her here at the Magic Millions in February or back in Melbourne at the Inglis Premier Sale.”

Written By (Written Tycoon) has been an instant success at Widden Stud and his early feature winners include the LR Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) winners Ripcord and Wind And The Lion who is out of a Sebring mare.

Social Smile is a half-sister to G3 Rotorua Cup (2200m) winner Highlad (High Chapparal) and her filly is an early August foal from a successful Lomar Park family in NSW.  Second-dam My Ladies Chamber (Arena) won a LR Canberra National Sprint (1200m) and she’s a three-quarter sister to G1 Coolmore Classic winner Regal Cheer (Arena).

Westbury Park yearlings at the Magic Millions Winter Sale are headed by a Playing God colt out of Fiftyshadesofgrey (Written Tycoon) catalogued as Lot 48.  His dam won three sprints at Rosehill for Marc Connors from a Good 3 to a Heavy 8.

“Playing God speaks for himself and he’s a lovely, big strong colt,” Phil said.  “His older half-brother Busy Fingers (Rubick) is with Adam Durrant and the stable rates him a potential Saturday horse.”

The Splintex colt from Sandida (Hinchinbrook) catalogued as Lot 19 is out of an unraced half-sister to G3 VRC Matron Stakes (1600m) winner Felicienne (Al Maher).  “His older half-brother Galactic Empire (Impending) bolted in at his first start at Ascot in February,” Phil recalled.  “The owners then accepted a big offer from Hong Kong.”

Renamed Galactic Voyage, he’s currently cantering at Sha Tin for trainer Francis Lui.

The first Westbury Park weanling to parade in the Swan Valley is a first-crop colt by Darling View sire Lightsaber (Lot 103) and the youngster also has a Hong Kong connection through his dam D’Oro Dancer (Medaglia d’Oro).

The mare is an unraced three-quarter sister to Baby (Medaglia d’Oro) who won three races at Happy Valley earning the equivalent of AUD745,000 for clients of trainer Jimmy Ting.

“She’s a lovely filly,” Ibbotson reported.  “And, from what I’ve seen, Lightsaber is siring real good sorts.”

Westbury Park will stand A Lot (USA) for $8,800 and My Admiration for $4,400 this year.  Fees inc GST.  For bookings or further information, broodmare owners can contact Phil Ibbotson on 0429 341 211.
