Trainer Luke Fernie will target black-type with Rissoles after the Geisel Park mare went back-to-back in the TBWA Platinum Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra on Saturday.
Rissoles (5m Playing God – Snitz ‘N’ Giggles by Snitzel) waltzed away with the 2025 TBWA Classic by three lengths and this year’s renewal was just as resounding albeit by half that margin from the heavily-backed favourite Galway Shawl (Toronado).
She was racing first-up since fading from view in the $1million KBRC Golden Saddle (1200m) in October and settled midfield behind a quick clip set by Goldfields mare Blue Can Talk (I’m All the Talk).
“Her work has been good behind the scenes and she goes well fresh so we came here confident,” Fernie said after watching his mare win running away. “She didn’t come up last prep like a few horses in the stable but she had them covered with that finish today.”
In-form jockey Chris Parnham was also confident at the top of the straight. “Luke had her fit off a Belmont barrier trial and she felt super. The quick pace helped and we had a trail into the race so worked out well when she let down.”
Rissoles will be set for the LR Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) on Anzac Day. “She likes her races spaced and deserves some black-type for her owner Eddie Rigg,” Fernie added. “Eddie is a great supporter of our stable and he has some really nice yearlings by his new sire Aysar from Geisel Park at the Magic Millions Sale this week.”
Rigg bought Rissoles from Rangeview Stud for $85,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and races her with Kevin Johnston and Simon Lill. Rangeview’s Rob Gray has the Playing God mare’s full-brother catalogued as Lot 277 in the Swan Valley on Friday. Their dam Snitz ‘N’ Giggles is a half-sister to speed-machine Acromantula (Written Tycoon).
Geisel Park also has a Playing God connection at the Magic Millions apart from its Aysar half-brother to Playing God 3yo Playing Free who won a Bunbury maiden on Thursday. He was catalogued as Lot 254 but has been withdrawn.
Geisel Park’s Playing God filly from Cosmic Jeuney (Lot 156) also owns an updated pedigree as a half-sister to Cosmic Treat (Universal Ruler) who won a Pinjarra 3yo maiden on New Year’s Eve. Geisel Park manager Conor Dunlop rates her very highly on type with a page befitting a ‘six-figure’ price-tag.
Their dam Cosmic Jeuney (Starcraft) is a half-sister to Hong Kong Group 3 winner Beauty Joy (Sebring) who raced as Talladega in Perth to win a LR John Roberts Quality (1800m) for Darren McAuliffe before transferring off-shore. He also prepared second-dam Impressive Jeuney (Jeune) to win the G3 WA Oaks, LR Natasha Stakes, LR La Trice Classic and LR WA St Leger in 2009-10.
