Sniparoochy spiralling for Scenic Lodge

Sniparoochy is back in the sort of form that saw her start a short-priced favourite in last year’s RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The Snippetson filly was steered to a third win in her last five starts by Holly Watson in the Amelia Park (1200m) at Belmont on Saturday and the addition of Westspeed Platinum bonuses has seen her earnings spiral to $400,000.

Sniparoochy was bred and reared at Scenic Lodge where they nicknamed her ‘Ferrari’.  She lived up to that handle on debut in December 2020 when bolting in by five lengths at Bunbury before doubling up at Ascot.

The Stephen Miller-trained youngster was all the rage for the Magic Millions Classic but she cracked a femur in running at Pinjarra and was sidelined for six months.  “The x-rays showed the injury had healed but it was still affecting her confidence,” Miller said on Saturday.  “She didn’t win in four starts so there was no option but to spell her again.

“Thankfully, she’s come back into her own this prep.  She should have won last week but it was a brave run after being taken on in front.  She pulled up well and licked the bin out so I decided to back her up again this Saturday.  She’s tough and the seven-day turnaround wasn’t a problem.

“She earning good coin for the owners with the bonuses and I’m convinced she will eventually be winning over 1400m even though she’s creeping up in the weights.”

Sniparoochy (3f Snippetson – Mamaroochy by Duporth) cost $67,500 at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions for a syndicate that includes Craig Yeo, Tony Buhagiar, Michael Brennan, Paul Higgins, Neil Pinner and Scenic Lodge founder David Smith.

Her older brother Bubaroochy was the first Scenic Lodge-conceived winner by Snippetson when he landed a plunge at Pinjarra in January 2019 for the same connections.  They are the only foals from Ascot winner Mamaroochy.

Belmont Bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy had purchased their second-dam Wishes (Danehill) for $20,000 on behalf of Scenic Lodge at the 2011 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.

Sniparoochy heads Snippetson’s third-crop in Western Australia and she has big shoes to fill following first-crop leader Tinsnip (G3 WA Sires Produce Stakes) and second-crop star Gemma’s Son (RL Magic Millions Classic).

Snippetson was WA’s leading active sire in 2020, 2021 and is currently second in that category in 2022. Sniparoochy was his fourth winner this week after Kentucky Blue at Belmont and a Keep Attacking – Vane Tempest double at Northam.

His yearlings averaged $67,500 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions and that makes his service fee of $7,700 (inc GST) one of the most cost-effective in the State.
