Universal Ruler and Snippetson were barn mates for eight years during halcyon days at Scenic Lodge and there’s been something of a revival for both stallions in recent weeks.
Together, they have sired a dozen individual winners and they teamed up once again for a winning double in Kalgoorlie on Sunday with Queen Selyse (Universal Ruler) and Call Me Frosty (Snippetson).
Universal Ruler (Scenic), who will be limited to a book of 15 mares this year, sired 7 individual winners in a fortnight and that list can be viewed here.
Snippetson (Snitzel) chimed in with another 5 winners in 10 days and among them were the Belmont trio of Brazen Butcher, Ace Queen Suited and Snippy Which who brought up a treble for trainer Adam Durrant in the Peters Investments Hcp (1650m) on Saturday.
Snippy Which took the length of the straight to run down front-runner Battle Commander (Rommel) who refused to lie down despite cutting out quick sectionals early in proceedings. “He’s consistent and Holly (Nottle) rode him patiently off a good tempo,” stable foreman Jason Miller said.
“He’s won four city races this prep and is in a good zone. He’s only got a short, sharp sprint and Holly timed it right today.”
Snippy Which was bred and sold by Scenic Lodge for $26,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and he’s now earned over $423,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $95,850 for a Durrant Racing stable syndicate.
His dam Witchery Woman (Blackfriars) won up to 2200m at Ascot and second-dam Dedicated Miss (Mukaddamah) won to Group 3 level in the 2004 Hyperion Stakes and Strickland Stakes.
Snippetson began his stud career in the Hunter Valley before relocating to Scenic Lodge in 2015. He died in January 2023 and the best of his WA-bred progeny were the 2yo black-type winners Tinsnip (G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes) and Gemma’s Son (LR Perth Stakes).
