The gift that keeps giving for Geisel Park

Geisel Park began a Group 1 winning week with its homebred sprinter Dug Another Hole in the Morley Growers Market Hcp (1500m) at Ascot on Good Friday.

Dug Another Hole is still in his first racing prep for Neville Parnham and has faced the starter every month since November.  Now an autumn 4yo, he’s won four of his last six starts at Bunbury (2), Pinjarra and Ascot for Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg and former trainer Dion Luciani.

“He’s honest and is doing a terrific job maintaining that winning form while stepping up in class and distance,” Parnham said after another all-the-way victory over Touretto (Toronado) and Dennis Choux (Jimmy Choux).

“He ran out the 1500m today and Brad (Parnham) let him stride and rides him well.  He’s easy to deal with at home after Dion did all the early work.  Eddie said he wanted to give me a nice horse and Dion gave this one a good rap.  Then Eddie gave him a share for the favour.”

Dug Another Hole is by Universal Ruler and is the first of five foals in as many seasons from Promiscuous Miss (Oratorio).  The mare is a full-sister to Motion Pictures who completed the G2 Karrakatta Plate – G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes double in 2008.

Geisel Park had purchased Promiscuous Miss through agent John Chalmers for $7,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Autumn Sale.  First-up, she foaled Geisel Park homebred Ripper Farooq (Vert De Grece) to win a Northam 3yo maiden earlier this season and her 2yo is a Parnham-trained Playing God colt named Playing Free.

Her yearling is a filly by Awesome Rock and Rigg was rewarded with a colt from the first crop of his MVRC Chautauqua Stakes (1000m) winner Aysar (Deep Field) in October.

Meanwhile, fellow Geisel Park stallion Manhattan Rain sired his third Group 1 winner on Saturday when 3yo filly Benagil was successful in the Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.  Benagil is homebred for former Blue Gum Farm owners Phil and Patti Campbell and started a $2.80 favourite after winning the $500,000 VOBIS Platinum Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield last month.
