Triple-treat for Peters Investments

Premier owner-breeders Peters Investments are triple-handed in the Peters Investments Hcp (1600m) at Ascot this Saturday and the numbers could stack up with their last-start winners Stormageddon and Western Power favoured ahead of Arcadia Knight.

Stormageddon (So You Think) was a $170,000 buy for Peters Investments at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale through Belmont Bloodstock.  His dam Tornado Gal (Hard Spun) retired to stud on completion of a hat-trick at Rosehill in 2018.  Second-dam Sky Trist (Sir Tristram) had won the G3 VRC Queen’s Plate (3200m) at Flemington in 2001.

Western Power (Iffraaj) is a homebred full-brother to Western Empire (G1 Railway Stakes) and their dam Western Jewel (Jeune) carried the cerise and white colours to victory in the G2 Perth Cup (2400m) in 2011.

Bob and Sandra Peters also won the 2022 G2 Perth Cup with Midnight Blue and they will be surrounded by the family again if they happen to win their own race on Saturday.

Midnight Blue (8g So You Think – Midnight Special by Zabeel) was subsequently sold for $92,500 to Te Akau Racing at the 2023 Inglis November (Early) Online Sale and he paid that back in the $200,000 LR Seymour Cup (2000m) last Sunday.

“We’ve had him for nearly a year and he has a new lease on life,” Te Akau assistant-trainer Ben Gleeson said.  “His last jump out was super and his coat is glowing with dapples like apples.

“There is a nice race for him on the last day of the Melbourne Cup carnival and it’s four weeks away which is probably the perfect lead-up.”  Gleeson was referring to the $500,000 Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday, November 9.
