Trainers Grant and Alana Williams bookended the Northam meeting on Wednesday when short-priced favourites Moonwalk and Fast Harry were steered to very impressive wins by Willie Pike.
Moonwalk (3f Bondi – Wahwahtusi by Thunder Gulch) is a Lynward Park homebred and she overcame a slow getaway for a first-up victory over Ninetymilestraight (Flying Artie) and Bondi Lifesaver (Bondi) in the TABtouch Maiden (1000m).
Fast Harry (4g Harry Angel – Helmaski by Helmet) is a Forest View Farm-bred graduate and is well on the way to repaying a $72,500 price-tag at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions. He was also resuming from a spell and had over a length to spare from talented mare Define Beautiful (Ducimus) in the TABtouch Hcp (1300m).
“They’re a couple of progressive young guns and will be right at home in better company,” Williams Racing posted yesterday. “Moonwalk opened the card and showed her class over a trip short of ideal but she proved too strong!”
“And Fast Harry was just that in the last race at Northam. He was in a league of his own storming home down the middle of the track to claim his second win from four starts.”
Moonwalk looks an untapped filly for Lynward Park’s van Heemst family. She is by resident sire Bondi (Snitzel) and is a half-sister to Ascot winners Castillo Del Lago (Alfred Nobel) and Drupa (Trade Fair).
Their dam Wahwahtusi (Thunder Gulch) was a $42,500 buy off the track through John Chalmers (as agent) from Canning Downs Stud in Queensland. Second-dam Dance Play (The Minstrel) is a three-quarter sister to English Derby winner Secreto.
Wahwahtusi was pensioned in 2023, and being her final foal, there was never any doubt Moonwalk would be retained as future broodmare prospect by Lynward Park.
Bondi was bred by John Singleton at Strawberry Hill Stud and was Group 1 placed in the ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden.
He’s a son of Champion Australian Sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) from Red Ransom mare Bondi Blonde and the cross with that sireline has generated numerous Group 1 winners like Golden Slipper heroine Estijaab and successful Widden Stud sire Trapeze Artist.
Bondi has sired 25 individual winners from his first two crops at a 63% strike-rate and he stands for a $6,600 (inc GST) service fee at Lynward Park. For bookings or further information call Troy van Heemst on 0439 957 111
