Leading owner-breeder Wally Daly has continued his extraordinary run in Perth’s juvenile events with He’s A Machino a commanding all the way winner of the Croser Sparkling Plate (1000m) at Ascot.
He’s A Machino (2c Maschino – There’snonesosassy by Due Sasso) had won a Westspeed Platinum Plate (1000m) on debut in December and went out a $2.10 favourite on Saturday following a pleasing sixth in the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m).
Daly and his wife Maureen have combined with co-trainers Sean and Jake Casey to win 8 races with two colts and a filly in the 2yo division this season. And apart from several black-type strikes, the trio have banked $1,019,720 including Westspeed Bonuses of $206,800.
Beatty (Gingerbread Man) has been the pick of the stablemates winning the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and LR Perth Stakes (1100m) at Ascot while Maria Lucia (Rommel) claimed the lucrative RL Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra.
“We’ve been blessed with these young horses and a young jockey like Natika (Riordan) who showed initiative today,” Sean Casey said. “It was a beautiful ride. She could have taken a sit but pushed through using the (3kg) claim. He’s a fit horse and it was pretty to watch.
“He’s a stunning animal. He will go for a spell now and the sky’s the limit. He has beautiful bloodlines and is a credit to the local breeding industry through his sire and dam.”
He’s A Machino is by Alwyn Park resident Maschino (Encosta de Lago) and is the most recent foal from There’snonesosassy who has thrown 7 winners from 7 to the races. Second-dam Achtung Baby (Sarab) was bred by Korilya Stud’s Ellie Giles to win the LR Burgess Queen Stakes in 2001.
“He’s tough and it’s exciting to be on such a quality horse. I decided to hold the lead and he kept rolling,” Riordan said after weighting in. “I ride him at home and want to thank the Caseys and Maddi Derrick who did all the work early on. He wobbled a bit into the straight and was probably thinking where’s everyone else? Then he have me a good kick and put three lengths on them.”
