Wonderfully Made provided Playing God with a fourth black-type victory in February when she lived up to an odds-on quote in the LR Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) on Saturday.
Positioned one-out and one-back, she raced past front-runner Admire Astra (Admire Mars) in the straight and a class edge ensured the China Horse Club filly would run out a convincing winner under a hands-and-heels ride by Willie Pike.
Wonderfully Made (3f Playing God – Precious Cargo by Trade Fair) follows this month’s strikes by her sire in the LR TBWA Breeders’ Classic (Playin’it Sweet), LR Cyril Flower Stakes (Almighty Class) and LR Challenge Stakes (Playin’it Sweet).
“She won well within herself and it was soft through the line,” Pike said. “She’s a nice filly but was a bit stop-start in the run so there’s surely improvement to come.”
The Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) is the first-leg on a classic path for 3yo fillies that incorporates the LR Natasha Stakes (2200m) on March 14 towards the G3 WA Oaks (2400m) on March 28.
Waroona-based J Farms owner Janey Napoli sold her for $250,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions (as agent) for Playing God’s owner-breeder Colin Loxton. She’s the second of two Playing God winners to race for their dam Precious Cargo who won up to 2200m at Belmont for Paula Wagg.
Trainer Dan Morton will have Wonderfully Made ready to run the classic trip on March 28. “That was a nice watch today although we were a bit concerned about tactics in the small field. It was a steady tempo and then she had to sprint home in the straight. We will be stretching her out work-wise in the mornings and we’re looking forward to the longer journeys.”
Janey Napoli’s draft of 11 yearlings to the Perth Magic Millions last month was topped by the Playing God – Awesome Rival colt (Lot 317) that was purchased by Dan Morton for $120,000. His dam had signed off her career with an Ascot victory for Michael Lane in May 2023.
J Farms sold another Playing God to China Horse Club when the filly from Our Sustar (Lot 243) made $50,000 in the Swan Valley. She’s from a Zoustar half-sister to LR ATC January Cup (2400m) winner Mission Phoenix (Reset).
“They were both offered as agent for Colin (Loxton) and are both well-balanced, compact first foals,” Napoli said. “And hopefully, they both go as good as Wonderfully Made.”
