The catalogue for the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale , the source of Australian Horse of the Year Black Caviar and South African Horse of the Year Igugu, is now available online.
The 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale will be held at Oaklands next February 27 to March 1 with the 790-strong catalogue.
Headlined by $210,000 purchase Black Caviar and $65,000 purchase Igugu, Melbourne Premier graduates have won 45 Group 1 races across Australia, South Africa, Japan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Macau in the last five seasons.
Underlining the strength of stallion representation in next year’s Melbourne catalogue the number of yearlings by Australian Champion Sire Lonhro has more than doubled from 13 in 2011 to 30 in 2012.
Inglis are also set to offer more yearlings than they ever have in Melbourne by red hot sire Fastnet Rock, with 28 by the son of Danehill catalogued.
Former Australian Champion Sires Encosta de Lago (17 lots), Flying Spur (11) and Redoute’s Choice (5) will again be represented at the flourishing sale.
One of the highlights of the sale will no doubt be the brother to four-time Hong Kong Champion Sprinter Sacred Kingdom (Encosta de Lago), a graduate of Premier himself, who will be offered by Kornong Stud Farm as Lot 478 .
Undefeated superstar mare Black Caviar was picked out of Melbourne Premier by her trainer Peter Moody in 2008, and 39 yearlings by her sire Bel Esprit are set to go under the hammer at the sale next year.
Australian and European Champion Sprinter Starspangledbanner was secured for $120,000 from Melbourne, and his globe-trotting sire Choisir has 22 to be offered at Premier in 2012.
Greg Eurell, the trainer of WS Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, also had to go to $120,000 to secure his star mare from Premier. Her sire Reset has 8 catalogued for sale next year, Weekend Hussler’s sire Hussonet has 8 entered, Reward For Effort’s sire Exceed And Excel has 11 and Ortensia’s sire Testa Rossa has 20.
Exciting young sire Magnus has 35 yearlings set for sale, while first crop sires are headed by Sebring (27), Northern Meteor (21), Henrythenavigator (20), Astronomer Royal (17), Duke Of Marmalade (10), Myboycharlie (10) and New Approach (9).
Eliza Park Stud, the home of Black Caviar’s sire Bel Espirt, leads the strong vendors list compiled for the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale with 64 lots.
Yallambee Stud, the sales source of Group One winner Rostova, will bring a large draft of 31 yearlings to Oaklands next year.
Swettenham Stud had the pleasure of offering Black Caviar amongst their Premier draft a few years ago and Adam Sangster’s stud will bring another strong group of 29 to the sale in 2012.
Other vendors with considerable size drafts coming to Melbourne next February include Supreme Thoroughbreds (31 lots), Bellerive Stud (29), Makybe (26), Three Bridges Thoroughbreds (26), Blue Gum Farm (21), Erinvale Thoroughbreds (21) and Phoenix Broodmare Farm (21).
