Champion Arrowfield sire Redoute’s Choice kept his hand in at Ascot last Saturday with smart sprinter Grand Jardin and he produced another future stakes winner at the Rosehill trials on Tuesday.
Redoute’s Choice posted his 68th individual stakes-winner when Grand Jardin won the Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) for for partners Keith Biggs, Rod Russell, John Jones and Elio Galante. He was originally prepared by Lee Freedman before transferring to Bruce Watkins in Perth.
Grand Jardin (5g Redoute’s Choice – Liberty Rose by Royal Academy) is the 15th stakes-winner from Redoute’s Choice’s 2005 crop, which includes G1 winners Samantha Miss, Gallica and Allez Wonder. He was bred by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds and was sold at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $1.50 million.
Gerald Ryan spent even more for the Redoute’s Choice colt he unveiled at yesterday’s trials.
Godspeed (2c Redoute’s Choice – Regrowth by Unbridled’s Song) topped the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale at $1.875 million and he looked the part with a two length win in a 900m hit-out at Rosehill.
”You’re always a bit worried when you go to a trial,” Ryan said. “What surprised me about it was the ease he did it in and, hopefully, he will improve and go forward from it.”
Godspeed was a member of the Segenhoe Stud consignment at the 2010 Easter Sale. Hunter Valley based nursery Kitchwin Hills was the successful buyer and manager Mick Malone recalled the colt was one of the stars of the sale. “I saw him not long after he was born and watched him develop,” Malone said. “He’s a beautiful mover with lovely bone and the classic Danehill head.”
Godspeed is out of stakes winning mare Regrowth and hails from the family of Forensics and Snippets. He is an older brother to recent Rosehill winner Pontiana and their dam foaled another Redoute’s colt in August.
Redoute’s Choice has 17 lots catalogued for the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions from January 12 to 19. Ryan is prepping Godspeed for a first-up start at Rosehill on January 15.
