Black Caviar and her younger half-brother All Too Hard led the Australian contingent on the 2013 World Racehorse Rankings released by the International Federation of Horse Authorities (IFHA) on Thursday.
Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) was rated the world’s best galloper with Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve on 130.
Vinery Stud’s All Too Hard (Casino Prince) was rated Australia’s next best on 122 alongside Atlantic Jewel.
“In all, 51 of our horses were included in the listings,” Australian IFHA representative Greg Carpenter said . “It’s a great result for Australian racing and continues to show the high regard in which our racing is held worldwide.”
All Too Hard earned his sky-high rating during an awesome three year-old season. After powering past Pierro in the G1 Caulfield Guineas, he lost no friends when caught on the line by Ocean Park in the G1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
Team Hawkes brought him back for an unbeaten autumn campaign that included the G1 Orr Stakes and G1 Futurity Stakes in Melbourne. He then bowed out with a thundering victory in the G1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick.
“All Too Hard is just an absolute athlete and is right up there with the likes of Lonhro,” co-trainer Michael Hawkes said. “He’s got the family, the pedigree and a big heart.”
All Too Hard covered a full book of blueblood mares at Vinery in 2013. Priced at a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee, he picked up late-season bookings due to an excellent fertility.
“It was a difficult decision for us to retire a colt with so much more to offer as a racehorse”, said Vinery Stud’s general manager Peter Orton. “All Too Hard did all we could have asked for and more.
“But it does beg the question – How would he have gone in races like the Doncaster Hcp or Queen Elizabeth Stakes at The Championships this year?”
All Too Hard’s initial book is an A to Z of mares who won or have foaled Group 1 and Group 2 winners. A selection of his mares includes;
