Trainer Desleigh Forster thinks the world of Adebisi and the gelding confirmed that rating with a return-to-form result at Doomben on Saturday.

Adebisi (3c Shovhog – Hell For Leather by Sanction) scored a front-running victory in the Ambassador Travel Hcp (1200m) to silence the critics.  He was coming off a last-start failure behind Military Rose in the G3 Gold Coast Guineas.

“I’ll take the blame for his recent form,” Forster admitted.  “I’ve had him ridden quietly but he’s probably better off in the lead.”

Adebisi was bred and sold by Raheen Stud for $15,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Summer yearling sale.  He is by deceased Raheen sire Shovhog and has now accrued $289,000 for connections.

Forster declared Adebisi one of the best three-year-old in Queensland after he won the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Doomben in December.  

The colt had won juvenile events at Eagle Farm and Doomben before bumping into Pressday at the 2010 winter carnival.  He wasn’t far away from the Sydney star in the G2 Champagne Classic, G2 Sires’ Produce Stakes and G1 T J Smith.

“He’s a late October foal and was still a baby this time last year,” Forster said.  “We could have gone south for the spring carnivals but if you look after babies they’ll look after you in the long run.”

Forster is confident that patience will pay off at Eagle Farm next month.  Adebisi has been nominated for the G1 Stradbroke Hcp but will struggle to qualify for the $1 million feature on June 11.

A more likely target is the Listed Lightning Hcp (1000m) on the same day as the Stradbroke.

Adebisi is a younger brother to Doomben winner The Gingermeister who was also trained by Forster for a syndicate including Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan.

Talented mare Beethog came close to completing a double for Shovhog at Doomben on Saturday.  She gave a great sight in the Listed Chief de Beers and was only nailed in the final few strides.
