Admiral takes Tasmanian 3YO Trophy

Trainer Barry Campbell has some decisions to make about future plans for Admiral in the wake of another stunning effort in the Tasmanian 3YO Trophy (1400m) on New Year’s Eve.

Admiral treated his rivals with contempt while streaking away to win second-up by more than four lengths in Launceston.

”He was impressive tonight and is only going to get better,” Campbell said.  “We will run him in the Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) and Sunday week and then head to either the Tasmanian Derby (2100m) or Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m).

“After his first-up run, Brendon (McCoull) suggested we take the blinkers off,” Campbell said.  “He pulled up after hitting the front that day and itwas clearly the right move.”

Admiral (3g Mossman – Reunification by West Quest) has now won 7 of his 9 starts and been placed in his other outings.  He was Tasmanian’s undisputed Champion 2YO in 2013-14 winning at Listed level in the Gold Sovereign Stakes and Elwick Stakes.

The son of Vinery stallion Mossman has earned over $224,000 for part-owned and breeder Bruno Calabro along with Ron and Trudy Schwanke and Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds.
