Manhood has pulled up in good order after his latest victory in the XXXX Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm triggering Annabel Neasham to train him for black-type assignments at the Queensland winter carnival.
The lightly-raced Headwater gelding improved his record to 6 wins from 11 starts with a one-length margin over Typhoon Taavi (I Am Invincible) and Hatchet (Worthy Cause) on Saturday. He settled perfectly just off the pace shouldering 60.5kg less a claim and was always going to run down the leaders when angled into clear running by Jaden Lloyd.
Neasham’s Gold Coast stable foreman Todd Pollard revealed Manhood will have a quick break and return for the Eye Liner Stakes (LR, 1350m) at Ipswich on June 17 and the Glasshouse Hcp (LR, 1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on July 1.
Manhood (4g Headwater – My Miss Pedrille by Lonhro) was initially trained by Michael Costa before he took up a Dubai contract with Sheikh Ahmed. “We’ve taken our time with him going through the grades,” Pollard said on Monday. “That was a Benchmark 78 on the weekend and now it’s time to step up.
“That was his second win in three starts this prep and he’s come back a much better racehorse since being gelded.”
Manhood was bred by Bob Hansberry and is the first foal of a full-sister to ATC Chelmsford Stakes (Gr.2, 1600m) winner O’Lonhro. Second-dam Mamzelle Pedrille (Zoffany) also won to Group 2 company in the STC Theo Marks Hcp at Rosehill.
He has earned over $200,000 off a $35,000 price-tag at the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale and his two winter targets are worth a combined $500,000.
Headwater has another six yearlings entered for the Magic Millions National Sale at the Gold Coast on May 30 and 31. Lot 1559 is a half-brother to Aspect (VRC Maribyrnong Plate Gr.3) and Brown Ben (SAJC Tokyo City Cup LR) being offered (as agent) by Attunga Stud. He carries the Big V brand and is bred on the same Headwater – Lonhro cross as Manhood.
Headwater (Exceed And Excel) will stand for a $13,200 service fee at Vinery Stud this year alongside Ole Kirk ($55,000), All Too Hard ($38,500), Exceedance ($33,000), Star Turn ($27,500) and Casino Prince ($5,500).
