Alpha male by Patronize

Darling View Thoroughbreds is on a winner with Exceed And Excel’s three-quarter brother Patronize.

Coming good with the benefit of extra numbers, Patronize sired another potential top-liner when Alpha Sky let down with an explosive finish to the Glenroy Chaff Maiden (1100m) at Ascot on Wednesday.  The first-starter descended from last on the corner to win by a length over Sheerness (Rogano).

“He’s a nice horse in the making,” trainer Simon Miller said.  “It was genuine tempo today and I told Aaron (Mitchell) to ride him cold.  He was a long way back but won pulling up.”

Alpha Sky is a homebred for a partnership that includes Peter Jones & Paul Wright and is the second foal for Au Fait (More Than Ready).  She delivered Patronize filly Kimbo’s Girl first-up and she won for the third time at Ascot on New Year’s Day.

Patronize (Redoute’s Choice) has turned the corner this season with a 2yo crop headed by last-start LR Perth Stakes winner Chix Pic.  Bred and sold by Darling View for $40,000 through Western Breeders Alliance at the 2017 Perth Magic Millions, he is currently a $5.50 second favourite for the G2 Karrakatta Plate this Saturday.

Stablemate Emerald Rose is a Patronize filly with strong claims over 1200m in the Karrakatta despite a $26 quote on tabtouch.com.au.  She was tipped out by Assetro at Ascot last month and was then seen doing her best work in the final stages of the LR Supremacy (1000m) and G3 Gimcrack (1100m).

Emerald Rose is the only foal from Rose Of May (Helenus) who was pensioned in 2016.  A multiple Belmont winner, she also scored over a mile at Pinjarra for Dave and Jenny Harrison.  Patronize has upgraded the pedigree which has no black-type going back several generations.

The Harrisons produced another Patronize 2yo with ability when Don’s Legacy won a Lark Hill trial on Monday.

In the Eastern States, Patron Black created a lasting impression during his first prep for Gary Portelli earlier this year.  He bumped into G1 Golden Slipper winner Estijaab on debut at Randwick and then blitzed the Black Opal 2yo Hospitality Hcp (1000m) at Canberra.

Patron Black was bred and sold by Darling View for $46,000 at the 2017 Perth Magic Millions.  The bottom half of that pedigree had also gone quiet until Patronize covered his dam Red Belly Black (Rock Of Gibraltar).

Patronize stands at Darling View Thoroughbreds in Mundijong alongside 2015 Karrakatta Plate winner Lucky Street.
