Amazing Able One wins G1 Hong Kong Mile

Able One continued New Zealand’s exceptional record in the G1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Able One (9g Cape Cross – Gardenia by Danehill) was the highlight performer of four NZ Bloodstock graduates to win at the prestigious Hong Kong International meeting.

Able One (NZ) settled in second position before taking the lead in the straight and holding off the challenges of Cityscape, Xtension and Dubawi Gold.

Moore declared after the race that this will likely be the triple Group 1 winner’s last season on the track and a trip to Dubai is now on the cards.  “He is the most amazing horse that I have trained,” Moore said.  “He’s come back from five stress fractures to win a Group 1 as a nine year-old.”

Able One won the G1 Champions Mile in 2007 and 2010 and Sunday’s victory made up for last year’s disappointment where he was scratched at the gates.

New Zealand has now bred and/or sold five individual winners of the G1 Hong Kong Mile with Able One, Beauty Flash (2011), The Duke (2006), Lucky Owners (2003) and Sunline (2000) – a feat unmatched by any other country.

Able One has won 10 of his 41 starts for earnings of HK$37.01 million.  Phoenix Park owner Janine Dunlop sold him for $270,000 at NZ Bloodstock’s 2004 Ready to Run 2YO Sale.

Phoenix Park has a draft of 16 yearlings in the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale, including the star colt by Fastnet Rock from the G1 winner The Jewel.  Dunlop has also catalogued 9 yearlings for the Karaka Select Sale.

Besides Able One, the other (NZ) bred winners at Sha Tin on Sunday were Finezza (Handsome Ransom), Viva Freedom (High Chaparral) and Fay Fay (Falkirk).

Catalogues for New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2012 Karaka Yearling Sales (30 January – 5 February) are now available and can be viewed online at www.nzb.co.nz
