Amelia Pk families set for Aus-Ire G1 double

Amelia Park started this season’s Saturday calendar with Toropa (Toronado) winning at Belmont on August 3 and the Vasse nursery finished it with King Of Light (Earthlight) keeping his unbeaten record intact at Belmont yesterday.

Trainer Dan Morton is also surveying the 3yo spring classics after King Of Light received no favours in running but was still good enough to defeat Radiant Light (Rommel) and Pony Up (Dirty Work) in the TABtouch Plate (1400m).

Bred and sold by Amelia Park, he had scored on debut at Pinjarra three weeks ago and doubled up with a performance that had his connections looking to the future with a fair degree of confidence.  “That was an impressive.  He covered ground and kept coming,” Morton said while Willie Pike returned to scale on Saturday.  “He can have a break now and might make a carnival horse.”

The G2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 22 is an obvious target and, like the majority of that classic’s winning roll-call, he could then progress to the G1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) on December 6.

Amelia Park homebred Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni) won the 2022 Northerly Stakes and King Of Light has the potential to also land Perth’s prime weight-for-age event of the season.  His pedigree was highlighted here after that debut at win at Pinjarra.

Irish-based 2yo Composing added black-type to Amelia’s Jewel’s pedigree when she made all to win the G3 Silver Flash Stakes (1500m) at Leopardstown on Thursday.  The Coolmore Stud filly won by three lengths to frank the form out of her maiden victory at The Curragh last month.

Composing (2f Wootton Bassett – Epona Plays by Australia) is from a half-sister to Amelia’s Jewel’s Irish-bred dam Bumbasina (Canford Cliffs).  “We’re delighted with her, she’s a lovely straightforward filly, honest and uncomplicated,” Coolmore trainer Aidan O’Brien said.  “She was very professional and Ryan (Moore) loves her.”

O’Brien indicated the G2 Debutante Stakes (1400m) at The Curragh on August 23 will be her next assignment ahead of a possible tilt at the G1 Moyglare Stakes (1400m) back at The Curragh on September 14.

Amelia’s Jewel was sold by Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale this year where she was bought by Coolmore Stud for $3.8 million.  “We will send her to Kentucky,” Coolmore’s Tom Magnier revealed at Riverside Stables.  “She will be covered first-up to southern-hemisphere time by Justify (USA).”
