Melbourne Cup winner Americain will commence his stud career at Calumet Farm in February 2013. The famed Kentucky nursery has purchased a half-share in the son of Dynaformer.
Owners Gerry Ryan and Kevin Bamford have retained a 50% interest and will also purchase mares in the northern hemisphere to be served by Americain.
In addition to winning the 2010 Melbourne Cup, Americain was also a G2 winner of the Prix Kergolay and Prix Vicomtesse Vigier in France and the G2 Sandown Classic and Moonee Valley Cup in Australia.
Americian is out of French G2 winner America (Arazi) and he compiled a 34: 11-4-4 record before bowing out in Green Moon’s Melbourne Cup earlier this month. He will be given a kick-start to his Kentucky stud career by serving a number of mares owned by Calumet that were specifically purchased for Dynaformer who died in April.
No service fee was mentioned when the deal was announced on Friday morning and negotiations are still underway with several studs to stand him in Australia.
