Angel Of Mercy can cap another sensational season for Hussonet at the Brisbane winter carnival.
Hussonet has sired the winners of over $3.20 million so far this season. That’s good going considering chief earner Colorado Claire has banked only $226,050.
Angel Of Mercy of currently on $170,300 and that will sky-rocket of she wins the $176,000 Doomben Roses (2000m) or the $400,000 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 2.
Angel Of Mercy (3f Hussonet – Pieta by Clay Hero) was a dominant winner over 1600m at Doomben last weekend and trainer Gerald Ryan intends to butter her up in the Doomben Roses this Saturday.
Ryan bought her for $180,000 from Mill Park at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She is raced in partnership by Scenic Blast’s owner Elio Galante and her dam is a winning half sister to G1 winning mare Divine Madonna.
“She’s a nice filly with plenty of upside and she’s screaming out for longer distances,” Ryan said before taking her north. “I’ve had a good opinion of her for a very long time.”
Angel Of Mercy had won a New Year maiden at Warwick Farm before she jumped to a Listed victory in the James H B Carr Stakes at Randwick last month.
Hussonet (USA) has sired more Group 1 winners that any other active stallion based in Australia. Angel Of Mercy will take his tally in that category to 29 if she wins the Queensland Oaks.
Now standing at Cornerstone Stud in association with Arrowfield, Hussonet is available for $25,000 in 2012.
