Trainer Geoff Woodruff went to R4 million (AUD 584,667) to secure a Jet Master colt from the Al Mufti mare Divine Nymph during the second session of the 2010 South African National yearling sale on Sunday.

This figure smashed the record price of R3.60 million paid by Mike Azzie for a colt by Singspiel during Friday’s opening session.

“I bought him for an overseas buyer who fell in love with the horse and the pedigree and was prepared to pay,” Woodruff said.  “I know the family well having trained his dam as well as his half-sister Divine and his dam’s half-sister Gushing.

Jet Master won 17 races and was South African Horse Of The Year in 1999-2000.  His stud career has been just as impressive since winning the South African sires’ premiership with only three crops of racing age.

Jet Master is a son of Northern Dancer sire Rakeen and he dominated the second session of the National Sale with another four yearlings fetching R1.40 million (AUD 204,635) or more.

“To break the record price on the first day and break it again in the second session is amazing,” BloodStock South Africa’s Marketing Manager Eamonn Cullen said.  “There has been a great buzz around the sales ring and we look forward to the remaining session on Monday.”

The two-day aggregate reached R100.26 million (AUD 14.65 million) at an average price of R336,460 (AUD 49,180).  Both figures marginally up on last year’s corresponding totals.
