Aquanita on warpath with Sujet

Aquanita trainer Simon Miller unearthed another class galloper for owners Peter Bell and Ray Meadowcroft at Belmont on Saturday.

The trio raced Night War (General Nediym) to victories in the G2 Karrakatta Plate and G3 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic and they will be winning more black-type with Sujet who opened his account in the Westspeed 3YO Hcp (1000m).

Sujet (3g Vital Equine – Karsavina Star by Corporate Raider) burst through a wall of horses at the furlong to win by over a length running away.  He was racing first-up since a brief summer campaign that included a debut second to Petrol Power in the LR Placid Ark Stakes.

“He ran a colossal race in the Placid Ark and we were concerned it might have taken a toll, long-term,” stable foreman Michael White said.  “But he’s a talent.  He really hit the line today and is going to be even better over 1400m and 1600m.”

Sujet is by Touchstone Farm stallion Vital Equine and is the second winner for Karsavina Star who won at Pinjarra and Bunbury before an injury finished her career after just four starts.  She hails from the family of top-class sprinters Craft Memory & Let Go Thommo (13 wins) bred at Siobhan Campbell’s Bellbridge Park.

Karsavina Star was raced by Manor Park owner David Bishop and he sold Sujet for $52,000 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions.  Bishop also has her rising two year-old colt by Touchstone Farm sire Planet Five that’s going into training with Ben Pearce.  The mare has a Vital Equine filly foal and is due to foal to him again in September.

Vital Equine (Danetime) was a Group 2 winner of the 2006 Champagne Stakes at York and the best of his three crops to race has been LR Southwest Breeders’ Classic winner Takanori.

Touchstone will stand Vital Equine for $4,400 (inc gst) this year and there’s a 50% early-bird discount for bookings until the end of August.
