Outstanding filly Night War confirmed her status as Perth’s best juvenile with a stunning victory in the G2 Karrakatta Plate at Ascot on Saturday.

Night War (2f General Nediym – Samar by Secret Savings) is prepared by Aquanita trainer Simon Miller for former AFL footballer Peter Bell and Perth businessman Ray Meadowcroft.  She had just enough in reserve to narrowly beat Benny’s Halo (Benicio) and Rebel Call (Exceed And Excel).

The winner went into the $500,000 event with sound lead-up form and started one of the favourites despite a wide barrier draw .  She had won on debut at Ascot in December and was runner-up to Western Fever in the Perth Magic Millions in February.

Bell and Meadowcroft also race Single Spice and she drew even wider than Night War in the Karrakatta  The Not A Single Doubt filly had won the LR Supremacy Stakes from the front and was forced to lead again on Saturday.  Under the circumstances, she did extra well to fight on for fourth.

“Night War will got for a spell unless Peter and Ray want to pay the late entry fee for the Golden Slipper,” Miller laughed.  “The WA Sires’ Produce is on the cards for Single Spice.”

Night War was a $90,000 buy from Baramul Stud at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  Her dam is a Sydney winning half-sister to G1 stayer County Tyrone (QTC Queensland Derby, AJC Metropolitan & Sydney Cup).  

The Karrakatta winner is from the penultimate crop of champion juvenile sire General Nediym.  He came up with a top-class filly every year starting with Regimental Gal and built on that success with I Got Chills, Nediym’s Glow, Paprika, Military Rose, Paprika, Sister Havana (NZ), Sweet Cheeks and Military Grace.
