Araman Park welcomes King’s Troop

Albany Racing Club conducts its final meeting of the season on Friday with a highlight being a free service to Araman Park stallion King’s Troop for the winning owners of all seven races.

Araman Park owner Alan McNamara is standing King’s Troop for a $2,750 (inc GST) service fee at his Mt Barker property and Friday’s promotion will help build the stallion’s first book in the Great Southern.

McNamara was born and bred into racing and is a successful businessman in the region operating Plantagenet Taxis with several property interests including Araman Park and they’re home to a dozen broodmares, four foals and two yearlings.

They’ve been joined by King’s Troop and the transfer came through his links with Michael and Chris Gangemi who originally brought the son of Redoute’s Choice to WA.  “They’re like family,” McNamara revealed earlier this week.  “My dad Alan snr trained winners for their dad John in the 1980s.”

The brothers purchased King’s Troop from Arrowfield Stud and he was based at Taunton Vale until the death of Kent Johnston.  The collateral damage of limited numbers continued and, through no fault of the horse, Araman Park is the fourth home for King’s Troop who is still only a 12 year-old bull.

“When he became available, I jumped at the opportunity.” McNamara declared.  “He’s a son Redoute’s Choice and a three-quarter brother to Snitzel.  I want to give him a proper chance and his first book with me is important.

“Apart from the transfers, he also had a year off in 2022 so there will be a lull with no 2yo crop next season.  We’re hoping our mares plus the seven free bookings and the publicity this Friday will help keep him busy in the spring.”

Friday’s Albany card commences with the King’s Troop Maiden (1600m) at 1.15pm.  For bookings or further information on King’s Troop, contact Alan McNamara: 0429 613 526  or alanmcnamararacing@gmail.com
