Armidale Stud sire Savoire Vivre (GB) has been put down due to advanced laminitis. The son of Sadler’s Wells is Tasmania’s reigning champion having broken the long winning run of West Quest in 2011-12.
“When we realized that the condition was indeed terminal, the decision was made not to prolong any suffering,” Armidale owners David and Robyn Whishaw said. “Savoire Vivre will be buried in his paddock at Armidale and we plan to plant a tree in his memory.”
Savoire Vivre has sired 119 winners of 358 races at a 56% strike-rate. They have won a total of $6.13 million and among them are the stakes winners Life To The Full, Methuselah, Rustia and Vivre La Nett.
He is one of the few Tasmanian sires to have sired metropolitan winners in SA, Queensland, NSW and Victoria, and his progeny are keenly sought after by some very astute Victorian trainers. At this year’s Tasmanian Magic Millions, his yearlings averaged over $21,000 and the majority sold to interstate buyers.
