Arrowfield sires Flying Spur and Charge Forward were back in business straight after the Christmas break with a winning double at Sandown on Tuesday.
Both winners Eclair Flyer (Flying Spur) and Limerock (Charge Forward) are based at Caulfield and both were coming off very impressive maiden victories.
The Robert Smerdon trained Eclair Flyer scored a convincing victory in the Noni B Hcp (1000m) on the Hillside circuit. He started an odds-on favourite after a runaway result at the Moonee Valley night meeting on December 10.
Eclair Flyer (3g Flying Spur – Shizu by Manntari) was racing first-up after a 30 week spell at Moonee Valley. He is a younger brother to Zupaone and was a $300,000 buy from Vinery Stud at the 2009 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Their dam Shizu was a G1 winner of the VATC One Thousand Guineas. The NZ bred mare died after foaling a Testa Rossa colt in August 2008.
Zupaone will have his first crop catalogued for the upcoming yearling sales. He retired to Hollylodge Thoroughbreds at Avenel after winning 5 of his first 9 starts including the G3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville.
Limerock was our Maiden Winner of the Day at Horsham on December 19 and she buttered up to score a by a long neck in the American Car Parts Hcp on Tuesday.
Limerock (3f Charge Forward – Only Vanda by Linamix) scored by five lengths in the Wimmera and the ease of that win prompted Peter Moody to keep her in town. Her older half-sister Warpath (Reset) had won at Randwick on Boxing Day.
Their dam Only Vanda was bred in USA and arrived here to win at Canterbury for Twin Palms Stud. She has a 2yo colt named Hendricus (Mossman), a yearling colt by Charge Forward and a colt by Redoute’s Choice foaled on September.
