Arrowfield sires on fire in Hong Kong

Arrowfield Stud sires have enjoyed a wonderful start to the Hong Kong season and the wining run continued on Wednesday night when Not A Single Doubt gelding Tai Sing Yeh scored on debut at Happy Valley.

Tai Sing Yeh (3g Not A Single Doubt – Precious Lass by Ashkalani) sat just off the speed in the Hamilton Handicap (1200m) before sprinting to the front in the straight.  He raced clear in the concluding stages to win by the best part of two lengths.

Tai Sing Yeh was a $125,000 graduate of the 2008 Magic Millions HIT Sale.  He originally went through the Gold Coast sale-ring as part of the Oaklands Stud draft at the 2008 Magic Millions yearling sale.

The winner’s dam was placed in the 2001 Geelong Oaks Trial (LR) and she is a half-sister to Shining Path (Marauding) who was a G3 winner of the SAJC Tokyo City Cup.

Tai Sing Yeh is the first winner in Hong Kong for Not a Single Doubt who stands for a $13,750 fee at Arrowfield.  He is a son of Arrowfield champion Redoute’s Choice and was a juvenile stakes winner in Sydney and Melbourne.

Tai Sing Yeh’s breakthrough came just days after Danzero gelding Happy Zero punched his ticket for the G1 Hong Kong Mile in December.

Happy Zero (5g Danzero – Have Love by Canny Lad) scored a comprehensive win over Sacred Kingdom in the G2 International Sprint Trial at Sha Tin last Sunday and trainer John Moore is upbeat about his chances in the Group 1 Mile on December 13.

“Happy Zero was not in the Mile originally, but he will be now,” Moore said.  “Darren Beadman’s been telling me for weeks that this horse is a miler not a sprinter.  We will keep our options open, but we might go for the longer race with him instead.”

The Danzero gelding made it seven wins from eight starts on Sunday and Beadman was very impressed with the way he went about beating the world’s joint top-rated sprinter.  “Happy Zero exploded,” Beadman claimed.  “He goes through the gears very quickly once he winds up.”

Happy Zero is a younger brother of Triumphant Unicorn who won four races in Hong Kong.  They are related to G2 winners Cossack Warrior (VATC Carlyon Cup) and Cossack Prince (VATC Sandown Guineas).  He was a $425,000 buy out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2006 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Arrowfield evergreen Danzero is standing his 15th season in the Hunter Valley this year.  His fee was cut to $22,000 for his 2009 book.
