Arrowfield spearheads by Snitzel

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Wandjina spearheaded Arrowfield Stud’s attack on feature races on Saturday.

Wandjina (Snitzel) led the charge when making all in the G1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington.  “He gave me a good feeling and he dug deep,” jockey Brett Prebble said.  “I knew the others were there, but the more they came at him, the more he gave me.”

Wandjina is the 30th individual Group 1 winner sold at auction by Arrowfield since 1994.  He was offered by Arrowfield at the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale where agent James Harron bought him for $1 million on behalf of owners Edmund & Belinda Bateman.

Wandjina is the second Group 1 winner from Arrowfield’s outstanding broodmare La Bamba (Last Tycoon).  She is also the dam of Inspiration (Hong Kong Sprint) and Listed winners Lucky Unicorn and Provence.

He is Snitzel’s fourth Group 1 winner after Sizzling, Snitzerland, and Shamus Award who won last year’s Australian Guineas and the 2013 Cox Plate.

Arrowfield has a Manhattan Rain half-brother Wandjina’s at the Inglis Easter Sale next month.  La Bamba also has a 2yo colt Battle Of Troy (Flying Spur) with Hawkes Racing and a weanling filly by Snitzel.

The Guineas win completed a Flemington feature double for Snitzel and Arrowfield after Amorino won the G3 Shaftesbury Avenue Hcp (1400m).

Amorino has won 8 races and more than $600,000 for his Perth based owners Elio and Jacqui Galante..  He is from Steal My Love (Marauding) and was a $70,000 buy from the Arrowfield draft at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Arrowfield signed off a very good day when Not A Single Doubt mare Miracles of Life cleared out in the G2 Challenge Stakes (1000m).  A Group 1 winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes two years ago, she is from Dazzling Gazelle (More Than Ready) and was purchased by Stonestreet Stables for $900,000 from last year’s dispersal of Teeley Assets.

Miracles of Life was foaled and raised at Arrowfield for her breeder Teeley Assets, while Amorino was bred by Arrowfield in partnership with Katsumi Yoshida’s Jungle Pocket P/L, and Wandjina was bred by Arrowfield alone.
