Independent Stallions shuttler Artie Schiller sired his second winner in 48 hours when Teryns Song was successful over 1100m on turf at Ellis Park in Kentucky on Sunday.
Teryns Song (2f Artie Schiller – Singinginthestreet by Street Cry) dictated terms in front and was always a couple of lengths clear of her rivals. She opened up in the straight and jockey Kristina Kenney let her cruise home by 2.5 lengths.
Teryns Song is trained by Dan McFarlane for owner Terry Hamilton and her win followed hot on the heels of Anne’s Beauty who opened Artie Schiller’s account at Woodbine last Friday.
Artie Schiller (El Prado) was a G1 winner of the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Belmont and he covered over 270 mares in his first three southern books until 2009. He is being given a year off shuttling from Pauls Mill in Kentucky but will be back at Independent Stallions in 2011.
Teryns Song was bred by Liberation and Brandywine Farms and was sold for $15,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale. She is from an unraced half-sister to Grand Heritage (Grand Slam) who was a Listed winner of the Continental Mile at Monmouth Park.
Second dam Minstrel’s Lassie (The Minstrel) was raced by Allan Paulson and was a Listed winner of the 1987 Prix La Fleche at Evry before travelling to North America where she graduated to a G1 victory in the Selima Stakes at Laurel.
