Myboycharlie mare Artistic Lass has found a new lease of life since her latest transfer to Darren Weir’s stables at Ballarat.
Originally with trainer David Payne in Sydney, she won at Morphettville in May and doubled up in a National Jockey’s Trust Heat (2200m) at Sale’s metro meeting on Wednesday.
Artistic Lass (4m Myboycharlie – Famous Painter by Peintre Celebre) showed ability as a two year-old with placings at Canterbury and Rosehill before finishing fourth in the LR Fernhill Hcp (1600m) at Randwick’s autumn carnival.
She moved to Leon Macdonald’s Adelaide yard after a midfield finish in the 2014 G1 Vinery Stakes at Rosehill and returned to Payne as a spring three year-old for a Canterbury win before another transfer to Weir earlier this year.
In England, Myboycharlie four year-old Euro Charline and her connections are ready for revenge in the G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on July 10.
The Group 1 winning filly was a controversial last-minute withdrawal from the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. Trainer Marco Botti believes action should be taken after she was given short shrift by the starting judge behind the barriers.
“How they handled the situation was just ridiculous,” Botti claimed. “They gave her just 27 seconds and no one can explain or justify that ruling. It was a rash decision to let them go without her.
“She was second-favourite in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot. They would have given more time for a claimer at Beverley.
“I can see why the owners were upset as they had all come over from America and they said that they had never seen anything like this in any part of the world. They would have lifted her in had it been in France or America.
“I am not saying she would have won, but she was in great order and the way the race unfolded she probably would have had a good chance. I am just cross at the situation.”
Apart from the Falmouth Stakes, Botti also mentioned the G2 Summer Mile as an alternative at Ascot on July 11.
Vinery will stand Myboycharlie for an $11,000 (inc gst) fee in 2015.
