Arvanitis hooks up with Swettenham Stud

Melbourne businessman Peter Arvanitis took pin-hooking to another level at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale this week.

Instead of buying foals at auction, Arvanitis went straight to the source and purchased three of them out of a paddock.  They came at the right price and he’s already well in front after Swettenham Stud sold a Not A Single Doubt – Exo colt (Lot 523) as agent for $150,000 at Oaklands Junction.

It continued the winning run Arvanitis and his wife Areti have enjoyed with Swettenham owner Adam Sangster.  They race winners like Tigress Joy (Hold That Tiger) with the Sangster family and are also part of the large syndicate that owns black-type filly Member’s Joy (Hussonet).

“We hit it off straight away,” Arvanitis recalled.  “Adam’s a good bloke plus he’s a St Kilda supporter and that helped, too.

“I bought the foals at just the right time,” Arvanitis explained.  “The Not A Single Doubt colt’s older half-brother Diamond To Pegasus came out and won the Canonbury Stakes at Randwick.”

The colt was purchased by Brad Spicer and will likely be trained by Leon Corstens.  They bought Starspangledbanner for $120,000 at the 2008 Melbourne Premier and he went on to win the G1 Caulfield Guineas and G1 Oakleigh Plate before transferring to Coolmore.

Arvanitis has several unraced two year-olds in training including Sweet Home Chicago (Flying Spur) who was a $50,000 buy from Arrowfield Stud at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She is a three-quarter sister to Caulfield G3 winner Get Square (Redoute’s Choice).

Sweet Home Chicago is trained by Robbie Griffiths and is a stablemate of Keep The Faith filly Consecrate.  She won on debut for at Bendigo in December for a syndicate that includes Arvanitis who races under the Hillside Parade Racing & Breeding banner.

Arvanitis has also entered a God’s Own colt for the Adelaide Magic Millions on March 13.  He is a half-brother to Flemington G3 winner Abdullah and is catalogued as Lot 46 in the Swettenham draft.

A second Not A Single Doubt yearling (Lot 179) will be the last of the trio to go under the hammer at the Inglis Autumn Sale in April.  The filly is from Star Of Tristeke and is a half-sister to Tricove who was also a stakes winner at headquarters.
