Dare I Ask completed another winning month for Greta West Stud sire King Of Prussia when she demoralised her rivals at Mornington on Tuesday.

Dare I Ask (4m King Of Prussia – Touchy Subject by Top of the Pack) was beautifully rated in front by Jarrod Todd before accelerating to a four length victory in the Wise Employment Plate (1223m).

“We were really pleased with the way she dropped them in the straight,” trainer Russ Cleland said.  “I’ll see how she recovers but there’s a 0-62 race back here at Mornington in a fortnight that should suit.”

Dare I Ask was racing second-up after a six month spell.  “She was always about the place without winning during her first preparation last year,” Cleland recalled.  “The break did her the world of good and she has just kept improving this time in.”

Managing part-owner Bill White bought the mare in a private deal with Wangaratta breeder Ross Schutt.  

Dare I Ask started equal favourite at Mornington after an encouraging first-up placing at Geelong on June 3.  “Remi Tremsal was on board that day and he’s done all the work on her,” Cleland said.  “But he took the ride on one trained by Dean Bernaisse on Tuesday not knowing our mare was in the same race.

“Remi is a terrific young jockey but he felt sick when Dare I Ask streaked clear in the straight.”

King Of Prussia got the Mornington winner from Touchy Subject who won six races for the Schutt family including one in town at Sandown.

Touchy Subject has a rising two year-old filly by Greta West sire Dangerous.  “She’s being broken in by Kay Bird down at Hastings,” Shutt revealed.  “Bill White rang up about her straight after the Mornington races.”

Shutt didn’t say as much, but the asking price for a half-sister Dare I Ask would have increased by the time White got home on Tuesday night.
