Eliza Park International sire Astronomer Royal was represented by his first European juvenile winner of the season in France on Tuesday.
His colt Kloud Gate won the Prix Des Amarantes (1200m) at Aix-Les-Bains second time out for trainer Jacques Heloury and jockey Tony Piccone.
Astronomer Royal’s current two year-olds are his penultimate French bred progeny. He relocated to Eliza Park on a permanent basis in 2012.
Kloud Gate (2c Astronomer Royal – Talkata by Suave Dancer) was bred at Haras d’Ellon by Thierry de la Héronnière and is a younger half-brother to Longchamp stakes performer Baby Wood (Elnadim).
Astronomer Royal (USA) won the 2007 French 2000 Guineas and he was also placed in that year’s French Derby. His best galloper out here has been the Chris Waller trained Weary who won the G3 Doncaster Prelude in April prior to Group 1 placings in the Doncaster Mile and All-Aged Stakes.
Astronomer Royal’s first southern crop are three year-olds and there have been 16 winners of 23 races this season.
The only European classic-winning son of Danzig available to Australian breeders, he stands at Eliza Park International for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee.
