Atomic is likely to skip the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes despite scoring a brilliant debut win in the Listed Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on Wednesday. The highly regarded colt unleashed a powerful burst in the straight to win impressively.
Atomic (2c Commands – Fluffy Duck by Tale Of The Cat) was a $205,000 buy at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale. “He’s really starting to put it together,” stable foreman Anthony Freedman commented. “He’s doing it on raw ability and will just get better – as the breed do at three.”
Atomic is not paid up for the Blue Diamond Stakes. Instead, he will have a break before connections decided whether to plan a Golden Slipper campaign.
Atomic becomes the 37th individual stakes winner for Darley sire Commands. His dam Fluffy Duck won seven races and she is a half sister to Adelaide stakes winner Pricked and the dam of Tony Vasil’s promising Commands colt Intencion.
Atomic was sold by Queensland’s Rosari Farm and they recently sold his yearling half sister by General Nediym at the Gold Coast to top Perth horseman Simon Miller for $170,000.
