Aussie agent on Day 3 leader-board at Keeneland January Sale

Sydney agent Vin Cox continued his off-shore buys when spending US$135,000 for Mi Chiamano Mimi on Day 3 of the Keeneland January Sale on Wednesday.

Mi Chiamano Mimi (Came Home) was a Listed winner of the 2008 Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita and was last seen winning an allowance event at Hollywood Park on November 19 to improve her record to 5: 3-2-0.

Mi Chiamano Mimi is from the G3 winner Fantasy Angel (Saint Ballado).  The dam is a half-sister to Panamanian champion Gris Grande (Silver Buck) and the stakes performers Vision in Flight (Montbrook) and Ellusive Tales (Lucy’s Axe).

Wednesday’s session topper was Rachel’s Star (Seeking the Gold) who realised $220,000.  She is the dam of multiple stakes winner Citizen (City Zip) and is in foal to Elusive Quality.

Tieing with Mi Chiamano Mimi on $135,000 was State Cup (Elusive Quality) who is in foal to Dixie Union.  She is a half-sister to G2 winner St Averil (Saint Ballado) who stands at Goodwood Park in Queensland.

The session’s highest-priced yearling was a Scat Daddy filly knocked down to Twin Peaks Racing for $120,000.  Consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, the Kentucky-bred filly is from the stakes performer Debbie’s Assault (Belong to Me).

After a strong second session on Tuesday, business nosedived on Day 3 of the five-day auction.   On Wednesday, 211 horses sold for $2.56 million.  The average dipped 37% to $12,133.

Point Ashley (Point Given), who was withdrawn from Keeneland’s January Sale, has been sold privately for US$1 million to Shadai Stud’s Katsumi Yoshida.  She is in foal to Ghostzapper.

Point Ashley won the 2006 Del Mar Debutante (G1).  She has already produced fillies by Distorted Humor in 2008 and 2009.
