Aussie collects cash from Kiwis

Australian raider Ockham’s Razor stole the cash from the locals in New Zealand’s richest race at Ellerslie on Sunday.

The Anthony Freedman trained grey colt was wayward in the straight but still had a half-length to spare over Silk Pins and Warhorse in the $1 million Karaka Million (1200m).

Ockham’s Razor (2c Any Suggestion – Shadow Ray by Groom Dancer) was one of seven youngsters under double-figure odds in a wide-open Karaka Million.  “They didn’t go that fast and we had cover on and off,” winning jockey Craig Williams said.  “He got a little bit lost on two or three occasions but it was a very dominant win.”

Ockham’s Razor arrived in New Zealand after a debut second behind top filly Sweet Little Lies at Caulfield on January 7.  He was a $170,000, Ockham’s Razor was the most expensive purchase from the first crop of Any Suggestion, a topline Australian sprinter now standing at Rich Hill Stud near Matamata south of Auckland.

Bred by Jungle Pocket P/L, Ockham’s Razor was purchased by Bahen Bloodstock from Rich Hill Stud at NZ Bloodstock’s 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for $170,000.

Ockham’s Razor is from the first crop of Rich Hill Stud resident Any Suggestion.  He was a stakes winner of nine sprints and was also a G1 runner-up in the MVRC Australia Stakes behind Miss Andretti.

He is a son of Danehill’s ill-fated son Lion Hunter and hails from the female family of G1 winner and successful sire Show A Heart.  Rich Hill Stud will offer a sister to Ockham’s Razor at the NZB Karaka Select Sale at Lot 1034.
