Aussie Oratorio leads line-up at Mungrup Stud

Champion Sunspeed stallion Oratorio (Aus) heads the Mungrup Stud roster for 2012.

Oratorio (Stravinsky) will stand for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee and that also equals the top price for all stallions based in Western Australia this year.

His position on top of the totem pole matches his popularity at the Perth Magic Millions.

Oratorio yearlings dominated the leader-board again this year with the three top-priced lots among local sires.  And they were purchased by astute judges Dan Morton ($205K), Craig Thompson ($180K) and John Chalmers ($150K).

Oratorio has sired 73 individual winners of 182 races in his first three crops and among them are G2 Karrakatta Plate winners Motion Pictures and Gold Rocks, G2 WA Guineas winner Clueless Angel and Perth’s flying sprinter Waratah’s Secret.

His current crop of two year-olds includes the David Harrison trained youngster Angry Squatter.  A stablemate of Waratah’s Secret, he scored with a brilliant finish in the Westspeed Nursery (1000m) at Belmont on Wednesday.

Incoming shuttler Dick Turpin (Ire) and Danehill Express are competitively priced at $8,800.

Dick Turpin (Arakan) defeated French Derby winner Lope De Vega by four lengths in the G1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly and is currently completing his first northern book at the English National Stud.

Danehill Express (Danehill) is involved in a tight tussle for the 2011-12 WA first-season sires’ premiership.  He currently has a slim lead over Touchstone Farm’s Vital Equine.
