A day after the retirement of Ballydoyle star Rip Van Winkle, his trainer Aidan O’Brien announced that both Fame And Glory (Montjeu) and Cape Blanco (Galileo) will miss the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs next month.
“Both horses had hard races in the Arc de Triomphe and it has been decided that neither of them will be going for the Breeders’ Cup Turf,” O’Brien revealed. “But they’ll be kept in training next year.”
Ballydoyle colt Beethoven (Oratorio) will run in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1). He was a G1 winner of the 2009 Dewhurst Stakes but was unplaced last time out G3 Irish Diamond Stakes on October 1.
O’Brien’s team for Churchill Downs will also include Treasure Beach (Galileo) in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and Bright Horizon (Galileo) in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon. Together (Galileo) is another under consideration for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
