Former Lynward Park sire Balmont has been sold to continue his stud career in Canada.
In a deal brokered by Gary Moore of Gavelhouse, he will stand at Jughandle Ranch in Calgary.
Balmont (USA) left Western Australia prior to his filly Belle La Vie winning the LR Breeders’ Classic (1400m) at Bunbury last Sunday. She was set for the black-type event after completing a hat-trick at Ascot in December.
Belle La Vie (3f Balmont – Beautiful Dane by Danetime) is a homebred for Chris and Jerry Stelmach and she launched a powerful finish to win by a nose from Blitzem Someday (Natural Blitz). Front-runner Fire Born (Oratorio) faded to finish three-quarters of a length away third.
The Bunbury filly is from a daughter of former Sunspeed shuttler Danetime and LR Crawford Quality winner Beautiful Bon Bon. She is closely related to Danetime stakes winner Dark Target (G3 Prince of Wales Stakes).
Balmont (Stravinsky) served his first Sunspeed book at Lynward Park in 2008 and was put over a handful of mares at Waterford Stud in Coolup last year while waiting to his flight to Canada.
The best of his progeny out here, and by some margin, is top-class mare Balmont Girl who has been credited with Group 3 victories in the WA Oaks and Asian Beau Quality.
